It is strongly recommended that you perform a 6 monthly preventive dental examination in order to establish a complete diagnosis of the condition of your mouth.

During this consultation, a visual examination will be carried out and, if necessary, will be accompanied by a small or panoramic x-ray. It is thanks to these methods that Doctor Carolyn Carbasse is able to correctly diagnose the evolution of any cavities or old fillings, even if they are invisible to the naked eye, verify the correct function of removable and fixed prosthesis, diagnose oral cancer in its early stages as well as any gum problems down to gum disease or bone loss. With all these elements taken into consideration a treatment plan can then be formulated.

What to expect during your oral consultation

The examination is the first visit before any dental treatment. It lasts about 50 minutes. This is when the Doctor will get to know your history better and will suggest the treatment suited to your needs.

Step 1 : Visual examination

Dr Carolyn Carbasse will carry out a visual examination of your mouth to detect the presence of cavities, signs of oral cancer, check the condition of old fillings, crowns, bridges and dentures and the general health of the gums.

Step 2 : X-ray examination

If necessary, a small or panoramic xray will be performed depending on the results of the first step. This will enable the Doctor to correctly define the dental care needed.

Step 3 : Deciding on Initial treatment

Depending on the results of the first 2 steps, the dentist may decide that it is most imporant to carry out a clean in order to prepare the teeth for future treatment.

Step 4 : Formulating treatment plan

Once the first 3 steps have been carried out, the Doctor will proceed to formulate a plan for the dental care required. This serves to inform the patient of the exact treatment to be carried out at each appointment and the time scale in which the work will be completed.

The moment to ask your questions

It is during the oral examination that you will be able to ask all the questions relating to your oral health. The doctor can also advise you on oral hygiene techniques to adapt as well as on the appropriate lifestyle.
